Win Bids Without Lowering Price
Is that the best you can do?
We have all heard that question when submitting a bid as a builder.
Have you ever thought of what you are conveying to the customer if you lower the price? Or what if you are discounting your work left and right?
Yep you guessed it, you are showing them that you are overcharging in the first place.
Remember you are the one in business, you are the one that needs to make sure you cover your overhead, and of course you need make a profit to help you continue to stay business and also help others grow.
So how do you win bids without sacrificing price?
The first thing you can do if they ask about discounting is explain the above to them.
Next, you need to realize that you will not win every bid or even want every job that comes your way and that is a good thing. Usually the ones that want a dirt cheap price are the same ones that cause the most problems and the jobs you don’t want are usually for a reason, because they end up costing you more money in the long run. Keep in mind you are providing a service, most of your "good" clients are aware that, and are willing to pay a reasonable price for that service.
Next I have two words for you…. Previous Customers.
You know that they are your best lead sources, you know how they are to work for, and they my friend, are a gold mine.
But how do you keep in the minds of your previous clients?
Simple, send cards. Any kind of card, but make sure that doesn’t include advertising or discounts.
There are may services that make it easy to send these cards and the possibilities are endless on the subjects you can send.
Here are just a couple of examples….
- Thank you for being a previous customer I hope you are having a wonderful week. and sign with a name and phone number. Simple and to the point
- Happy National…. Day. There are tons of national holidays out there. Have fun with them. Here is a link to a site with all the fun, usual holidays. https://nationaldaycalendar.com/
So when you want to start raising your game, getting qualified jobs that will help you grow your business, remember it’s ok to say no to some jobs and the best way to grow and know you are getting good leads is to show some love your previous customers.
